Casa Rusca Exhibitions

Starting from 1987, the year in which it opened, Casa Rusca has hosted important exhibitions of local and international artists. In 1987, the Museum hosted an exhibition dedicated to the illustrious painter Giovanni Serodine from Ticino, with his “paintings beyond Caravaggio”. The following year, the works of the renowned British artist Graham Sutherland were presented. It was then the turn of the Italian artist Giorgio Morandi. In 1991, the Museum protagonists were Max Bill and Alberto Burri. During the 90s there were important retrospectives dedicated to Osvaldo Licini, Enrico Baj, Emil Schumacher, Asger Jorn, Marino Marini, and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.
In the 21st century, the Museum continued to propose different exhibitions mainly focusing on international artists. Below is an overview of the exhibitions of the last few years.

Locarno Arte

The new series of exhibitions, aimed at enriching Locarno’s cultural offer, stands alongside the important international exhibitions of Casa Rusca, and pays particular attention to artists, both young and old, who are active in Ticino. We want to encourage a definitive museum consecration of painters and sculptors of our territory. The initiative has the ambition to highlight diverse expressive experimentations, thanks to an alternation of languages and techniques, poetics and visions, homages to tradition and innovative approaches. The artists who will present their works at Casa Rusca are united by the freshness of their inspiration, but, above all, by the quality and originality of their creative proposals. The Locarno Art programme, which is mainly dedicated to Ticino talents, does not, however, exclude the possibility of presenting - on special occasions - significant works of artists active in the rest of Switzerland or abroad, to further encourage discussion and dialogue among different artistic realities.
